Naija Pride! Skepta wins the Mercury Prize

Check out Skepta's music.
See how he won.
And how his mummy Ify Adenuga danced.

He's such a lovely guy and we love him back!
No really.
Nigerian music fans, remember the Wizkid hit Ojuelegba, and the remix, featuring Drake and Skepta?

The Hyundai Mercury Prize - previously known as the Mercury Music Prize - is an award given each year for the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland as chosen by an anonymous panel of judges. It was established in 1992.

This year, the award included £25,000 prize money and the ceremony took place on September 15th at Hammersmith Apollo, a few days before Skepta's 34th birthday.  He won for his 2016 album Konnichiwa.

In 2015, the shortlist for the Mercury Prize included another Nigerian-British artiste that you'll love: Ghostpoet.  His 2015 album Shedding Skin is gorgeous.  As is his voice.  And everything about the music.

Recent winners of the Mercury prize include PJ Harvey and James Blake.
