events x music : the NewsBuka story ... How NewsBuka started TEN YEARS AGO 💥💤😁🌱👽 How tall oaks from little acorns grow

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, I've written a brief history: Part One, Part Two, and now we have Part Three of Three!
MUSICAL INTERLUDE <== Yeah, love music on this blog!
🌷
Annnyway, here we go:

Nigerian Youth, irrepressible in the face of economic recession, kept creating and connecting till we started hosting end-of-year musical showcases that just grew and grew in popularity.
Long Live Detty December.

🌷
What else happened at the blog formerly known as Nigeria News Buka?
Of course,
Dance, Dance, Dance.
I noticed that facebook blocked this blog, maybe because it had been posted too many times for free :-)  It's still blocked.   How could I forget this seismic, global, and ongoing event: CORONAVIRUS.
Then Nigeria had protests as well.  It's best to not delve into that.  I changed the blog name, and the tag line too.  It used to be "I love my country, I no go lie" - great song - and now it is "serving everybody."  You know what a buka is, right?  A local restaurant, hence "serving" 😁

All day today, I have looked at hundreds of past posts to create this post and now I feel tired.  Suddenly I'm overwhelmed with the Old Testament Proverbs' conclusion that  All is vanity.
🌷
Of course there'll be more posts.
( Let me drink more water. )
I look forward to it all.
( I need to rest. )

Let me be more upbeat to close:
Beauty happens here, excellence happens here, good things are curated here and offered with great cheer - love it, will be back!

NewsBuka's origins, continued ... How NewsBuka started TEN YEARS AGO 💥💤😁🌱👽 How tall oaks from little acorns grow

Part Two of Three.
🌼
In 2012 and for a few years after, I wrote roughly one to two posts per month.
Usually it was just a summary piece with links to a "popping" or popular matter in the country.

Sometimes it was something outside of current affairs, but usually it stayed within the themes of policy or politics, or history or civics.
There was also the occasional feature on tourism, geography, family life, literature, or the media.
🌼
Other favourites: Africa and the AU, commemorating Nigeria's independence on October 1st, big news from other African countries, Youth, Women, sports, World Cup football, Christmas, elections, and other events.
I started adding a smattering of music on occasion in 2013.
2014 brought scary  news - remember ebola?  I thought we were going to die.

In case all of this bores you, please bear with me:
In 2015 I tried even snappier posts (two pictures, the headline asks you to pick one ) and music posts, with nice music videos.  I called this the great pivot and as you know NewsBuka would evolve (today) to feature music posts about half the time.
🌼
2016 is notable for the great acceleration then.
Attention spans in the world were going down, fast, and so the less any item demanded of a visitor the better.   It took a while, but I finally learned that I could loosen up and just share tiny posts containing no true editorial, no new writing, but just other so-called "content" -
music or snippets of almost anything, like great photos, the pick-one format from before, tweets, or instagram or even facebook items.
Also (now I remember) I stopped working at my 2012-2016 job that February.
For these two reasons I started posting far more than before, up to about 10 posts per month.

How NewsBuka started TEN YEARS AGO 💥💤😁🌱👽 How tall oaks from little acorns grow

From five posts in 2011 - See them HERE - to more 🎧🎵than💥💤five😁🌱👽hundred.

August 1, 2011: Goodluck Jonathan was President.  I had been a casual but enthusiastic user of blogspot for a few years.  I was newly out of a (related to blogging) real job as an online journalism / digital media bosslady.  I started Nigeria News Buka, a latest blog idea.  It would be like my arty blog REALbubbler that started months earlier, but with more politics than fashion for instance.  My innovation in both blogs was to rearrange the layout so that the blogroll - usually an optional item in the sidebar - became the star feature.

Come back for more of this exciting history!!!

Clear road for our personal person #Olamide #YBNL #BGEL

Olamide still tries to stay in touch with people he has known since Bariga.  “I go on Facebook and message them, but most times they think it’s a fake account. They just don’t believe it’s me and tell me not to text them again,”  he says, suppressing a grin.

Two proposals for deepening democracy (POLITICAL POSITIONS FOR EVERYBODY!!!)

Why not? I mean, the population is "qualified."  AND
 The people are "unemployed" anyway.

Democracy is for the people - not only that, it is BY the people.  WELL,
The people are many.  Let the leadership include "everybody".
Women YES. Men YES. Youths YES. Elders YES YES.
** Come as you are, whether you're a beautician or technician, a technocrat or an extrovert.  Every year, you have a 1% chance of being chosen to serve your society as a politician for the year.

Full Wikipedia entry HERE

The two proposals are 1. Pick randomly.  2.  More winners.

I remember how in school, we had among us class captains, dorm captains, many captains for this and that, many prefects, totalling more than 200 for a group of 2000 students.  About 50 prefects alone.  Society should aim for similar numbers, not just 200 to represent and govern millions - we'll need millions of governors, captains, and leaders.
